Family Day Care Homes are those in which one adult cares for up to 6 children. Family day care providers are regulated by the Office of Child and Adult Licensing and must be registered. These providers are listed in our database.
Group Day Care Homes are those in which two or more adults provide care for up to 12 children. They are licensed by the Office of Child and Adult Licensing. The adult:child ratio depends on the ages of the children. These providers are listed in our database.
Child Care Centers are licensed by the Office of Child and Adult Licensing and may care for over 12 children. The exact number depends on a lot of things, square footage of the site being one of them. Ratios of children:adult caregivers are dependent on the ages of the children. These providers are listed in our database. Child care centers include day care centers, preschools, nursery schools, before and after school programs, and Head Start programs.
In-home Child Care providers are not regulated at this time, so there are no minimum standards for health and safety. We can provide you with a packet of information that will help you choose an in-home provider, or nanny, as they are sometimes called, but we do not provide referrals for them due to the lack of regulation.
Relative Care Providers: A child's grandparent/step-grandparent, great grandparent/step-great grandparent, aunt/step-aunt, uncle/step uncle, or adult brother/step-brother or sister/step-sister who provides care in their home and does not live with the child. Relative providers must be at least 18 years old and enrolled with the Department of Human Services (DHS) Agency to receive child care payments from the State. We maintain a list of Relative Care Providers in Midland County.
Day Care Aide: A person you employ to care for your child(ren) in your home. Aides must be at least 16 years old and enrolled with DHS to receive child care payments from the state. We maintain a list of Day Care Aides in Midland County.
